Uncorrected thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy has adverse effects on fetal and maternal well-being, but may also extend beyond pregnancy and delivery to affect neuro-intellectual development in the early life of the child. This book addresses a wide range of topics relating to thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy; including physiological changes, thyroid function tests, screening for maternal thyroid dysfunction, iodine nutrition, thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, infertility and miscarriage, post-partum thyroiditis, as well as thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer.
