It's Always Night, or We Wouldn't Need Light

Die Doppelpräsentation in der Villa Merkel in Esslingen von filmischen Arbeiten Astrid Nippolds mit malerischen Installationen Hansjoerg Dobliars zeigt zwei Positionen, die sich ideal ergänzen, rütteln sie doch in der Nachfolge romantischer Traditionen an den Grenzen der rationalen Verfügbarkeit des Bildes:
Die Position von Hansjoerg Dobliar, weil er seine großen Übermalungen von Illustriertenfotos in düster farbig gefasste Konstruktionen einspannt und mit diesen kristallin scheinenden Strukturen kosmisch wirkende Räume formt.
Die Position von Astrid Nippold, weil sie filmische Bildräume, die von Bedeutung und Macht erzählen, durch tragisch-komische Begebenheiten in eine Schieflage steuert, in der sich konsequent die Absurdität des Daseins widerspiegelt.
Das Buch durchgängig mit Installationsaufnahmen ist folgerichtig auf diese besondere Raumwirkung hin im Werk der beiden Künstler konzipiert.
The joint presentation of Astrid Nippold s films accompanied by painted installations by Hansjoerg Dobliar at the Villa Merkel in Esslingen (28.6. 16.8.2009) showcases two eminently complimentary positions that following in the footsteps of Romantic traditions call into question the boundaries of the visual image s rational disposability. Hansjoerg Dobliar, for his part, harnesses his large overpaintings of magazine photographs in colourfully gloomy constructions to form thus the effect of cosmic space with these seemingly crystalline structures, whereas Astrid Nippold uses witty detail to channel spatial scenarios dealing with meaning and power into an unstable state, in which the absurdity of existence is systematically reflected.
Including several photographs of the installations, this book has been conceived with these characteristic spatial effects in mind.
