Engineering the Future for Sustainability

The theme of the 2023 annual meeting of the National Academy of Engineering, which was held in Washington, DC, on October 1-2, was &quote;Engineering the Future for Sustainability.&quote; A highlight of the meeting was a plenary presentation entitled &quote;Sustainability: The Defining Challenge and Opportunity of the 21st Century&quote;, which explored the vital contributions of engineers in the movement toward sustainability. This publication summarizes the presentation and discussion of the plenary.
