S.D. Doc Regan, writer of maritime and nautical affairs, ineptly taught himself to sail upon his retirement as a professor and university dean. His original dinghy provided ample opportunity to capsize, founder on rocks, end up on the lee shore, and embarrass the alleged scholar in front of large crowds.
