Materials for the Study of Variation

A founder of modern genetics (he coined the term in 1905), William Bateson was a pivotal figure in the crisis that shook biologists' thinking on heredity and evolution in the decades around 1900. "Materials for the Study of Variation" was his first major work. Published in 1894, it presents unique information on the development and morphology of numerous species of plants and animals and raises questions that remain unresolved to this day.
