Centric Relation in Complete Dentures

Centric jaw relation plays a major role in Prosthodontics as a whole and especially in complete denture prosthodontics. It is the most reliable reference position obtainable for occlusal rehabilitation in edentulous patients as there is a loss of proprioception due to the absence of teeth. In such patients, centric relation position helps to guide the patient in a clinically repeatable, recordable and unstrained stable position. The centric record is mandatory and imperative to a successful complete denture. It has over the years evolved to an enigmatic state due to the various views of different authors regarding its location and its recording methods.
