Detailed information

Replantation is the procedure to replace a tooth immediately back in its socket following deliberate or traumatic avulsion. Replantation can be done in cases of traumatic luxation/avulsion, intentionally replanting a tooth in which non surgical endodontic procedure have failed and tooth which needs autotransplantation. Avulsion is the complete removal of tooth out of its socket and is one of the most serious emergency in dental office as it disrupts periodontal ligaments and blood supply to the pulp tissue leading to pulp necrosis and damaged periodontium. The main cause of failure of replantation is root resorption, periodontal disease, pain, mobility and failure in primary healing. Despite of the failure, replanted teeth can remain functional for some years if managed properly.
