A Guide to Namaz

This is a scholarly edition of the first book on the Islamic prayer ritual as written for American Muslims in the English language in the 1890s by Muhammad Alexander Russell Webb. The original text of Namaz had no Arabic and in many places a dua' (supplication) or Surah (chapter of the Qur'an) was given in translation only. The Arabic texts, corrected transliteration, and translation have been added to the annotated text. The original illustrations for position of Salat (ritual prayer) have also been retained. Verse numbers for Qur'anic aya' and references for Hadith have been given when needed. The publishing of annotated scholarly editions of Namaz, Webb's annotated speeches, and his work on propaganda --Islam in America -- will not only present Webb's views on Islam, but also his sources for his positions. Assistance in compiling all articles written by Webb would be greatly appreciated so we can better understand the intellectual development of the founding father of American Islamic Journalism, Identity, and Daw'ah.
