Detailed information

Fruits typically constitute an essential part of the daily diet in India and they are in great demand round the year from most sections of the population. India now ranks first in world in the combined production of fruits and vegetables. But due to poor infrastructural facilities and seasonal nature of fruit production, import of fruits from foreign countries is increasing. There is a saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". But, because of this seasonal nature of apple production, apple is being imported from foreign countries. Red Delicious and Fuji are the two important varieties of imported apple, which contributing 70 per cent of the total apple imports.
