Detailed information

The River Ganga is the largest river basin in the Indian subcontinent. It is the life line of the riparian population. The Ganga originates in the Garhwal Himalayas (30 0 55 N, 70 0 7 E) from the Gaumukh ice-cave of the Gangotri glacier under the name of Bhagirathi at an elevation of 4,100 m above msl. After travelling of total length of 2700 km the river ends in Bay of Bengal at Ganga Sagar. It harvours a vast Ichthyofaunal diversity. In Present study 106 Fish species were recorded which indicates rich source of fish and fisheries in the stretch of the river Ganga.
