Fingal represented the last and final ‘classic’ style of tender once found throughout the three General Lighthouse Authorities of the British Isles. Performing a wide range of duties at Oban and at Stromness, Fingal served all the area needs of the Northern Lighthouse Board. Fingal came to be unique in her design and historic mode of operation, and enjoyed Royal patronage. A well-recognised and admired vessel, her private acquisition after the millennium has seen her preservation up to her new and future role as a luxury ‘boatique’ hotel in Scotland, as part of the RY Britannia experience in Leith Docks.
