Detailed information

This practical book describes the highlights of Dutch painting from a Chinese perspective for the ever-expanding group of Chinese tourists, business executives, and Chinese residents of the Netherlands. The author was attached to the Chinese embassy in the Netherlands for some years and in this book he replies to the many questions put to him by his compatriots on the subject. He first takes the reader from the fifteenth century when Jan van Eyck unleashed a painterly revolution with the innovative, realistically painted oil panels depicting minute detail. Then, based on fifty major Dutch paintings, he continues to guide the reader through the absolute masterworks of the Golden Age to Piet Mondriaan and the first half of the twentieth century, to conclude with a detailed explanation of Van Gogh's work. The text is in Chinese.
