Detailed information

• A superb colour guide detailing the Atlantic Wall, complete with over 1000 photographs The Atlantic Wall was an extensive system of coastal fortifications built by Nazi Germany between 1942 and 1944 along the western coast of Europe as a defence against an anticipated Allied invasion of the mainland continent from Great Britain. Many major ports and positions were made part of the Atlantic wall and received heavy fortifications. Hitler ordered them all to fight to the end and some of them remained in German hands until the unconditional surrender of Axis Forces on May 8, 1945. Several of the port fortresses were resupplied by submarine after being surrounded by Allied forces. The defenders of these positions included Slavic soldiers and SS troops. This book was originally produced in 1983, featuring over 1,000 photos. However, the photos were only in black and white, whereas this new edition, focusing on the Atlantic Wall, details all aspects of coastal fortifications along Western Europe, now almost entirely in full-colour, providing the definitive illustrated reference source on one of the most incredible feats of military engineering. The book also features a number of detailed, full-colour maps and documents covering the Atlantic Wall’s battle history. French Language
