Herman Melville (August 1, 1819 - September 28, 1891) was an American short story writer, novelist, and poet belonging to the American Renaissance period. His is most famous for his works: &quote;Typee&quote; (1846) and &quote;Moby-Dick&quote; (1851). Other notable works by this author include: &quote;Mardi: And a Voyage Thither&quote; (1849), &quote;Pierre: or, The Ambiguities&quote; (1852), and &quote;'Benito Cereno'&quote; (1855).
